Experts Debunk Sunscreen Carcinogen Myths, Urge Daily Use

United States: Analysts are concerned about the sources of misinformation that appear on various social media platforms, indicating that sunscreen is carcinogenic and hinders the benefits of sun exposure.

They also mentioned other influences, which are simulating people not using sunscreen.

What more have the experts to say?

Englewood Colorado’s Dermatology P.A., Amy Huber, of Colorado Skin Care Center, is on a mission to dispel the myth.

This, according to her, should not be followed this trend this summer, and she insisted that it is a “no-brainer” imperative to wear sunscreen every day, CBS News reported.

About carcinogenic Benzene

Huber has said Benzene is a chemical found in most sunscreen products, which has caused a huge controversy. Benzene is currently classified as a carcinogen, and various products, such as sunscreen lotions, have been withdrawn from circulation due to their benzene content in the past.

However, Huber supplemented that Benzene is not and has never been normally used in sunscreen and has never at any point been detected at levels in sunscreen that could be associated with the causing of cancer

According to Huber, “But I think people took that to heart and maybe discontinued the use of a lot of sunscreens after,” as CBS News reported.

“It’s pretty much a no-brainer that people need to be using photoprotection, especially here in Colorado during those parts of the days. Everybody definitely needs to be using some sort of photoprotection, and it needs to be part of your routine,” Huber added.

Experts address the issue

Huber said one of the issues at hand is inadequate use of sunscreen or re-application of sunscreen. She said many of her clients also have skin cancer diagnoses, and it is common to find such patients with this practice.

This is not the only way to achieve the aim; if one is worried about protecting oneself from the sun, there are other methods to use.

Huber stated, “Avoiding it (the sun) during the hottest part of the day between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., you can seek out shade for some of your activities, and wearing a mineral-based sunscreen — so, something that’s zinc or titanium, which is a pure physical block — is a really good option,” as CBS News reported.

It is also advised that the participants should wear fabric that is coated with SPF and should also prefer something that is light or breathable, and people are encouraged to wear hats.

The Skin Cancer Foundation also noted that a famous fact is that one in five Americans will have this affliction of skin cancer before they reach the age of 70.
