United States: With the onset of summer, COVID cases have been rising in the United States. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, although the KP.3 variant is leading out of all the other variants currently prevailing, the others are too far behind in causing the number of cases.

As USA Today reported, the CDC team is tracking the records and projecting the spawn of COVID-19 variants for two weeks, starting on July 7 and ending on July 20. 

They said the KP.3 variant causes infection in 32.9 percent of the total COVID cases, followed by KP.3.1.1, with cases reaching 17.7 percent. 

Both variants have a combined sum of 50.6 percent of the total cases.

The data also showed that from June 23 to July 6, KP.3 expanded 33.7 percent more than in the previous two-week period. 

What are the COVID symptoms of KP.3, KP.3.1.1? 

According to Rosa Norman, the CDC spokesperson, KP.3 or KP.3.1.1 do not have unique symptoms, and their symptoms are very similar to those of the JN.1 Variant, as USA Today reported. 

The government agency’s website mentions the common symptoms of COVID-19, which could appear after two to fourteen weeks of exposure to the virus. Symptom severity can also vary from person to person. 

These symptoms include: 

  • Fever or chills 
  • Cough 
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing 
  • Fatigue 
  • Muscle or body aches 
  • Headache 
  • Loss of taste or smell 
  • Sore throat 
  • Congestion or runny nose 
  • Nausea or vomiting 
  • Diarrhea 

Furthermore, the CDC also mentioned specific symptoms that one must seek medical attention for. These are: 

  • Trouble breathing 
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest 
  • New confusion 
  • Inability to stay awake 
  • Pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds 

Number of COVID cases in the US 

The CDC revealed a statewide list on its website, highlighting the lowest and highest COVID positivity rates, including the state wise rising cases statistics. 

According to the study, the positivity rate of COVID tests has risen by around thirteen percent within the past week. 

Furthermore, as of July 16, the data suggests that COVID cases are rising in 42 states.
